Odisha Cabinet to Meet Today Under CM Majhi’s Chairmanship

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep concern over the death threat issued to former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Jayadev Jena and assured strict action against the culprit.

According to Jena, the Chief Minister personally called him at 12:42 AM on February 5 after he escalated the issue via email and social media, citing the police’s delay in identifying the accused.

Jena had filed a complaint with the Capital Police after receiving a threatening call on February 3, in which the caller demanded ₹50 lakh as extortion money and warned of dire consequences if he failed to comply. Dissatisfied with the initial police response, Jena reached out to the CM, who took the matter seriously and assured immediate action.

“The Chief Minister assured me that he would discuss the case with the DGP and other senior officials to ensure the accused is identified and punished as per the law,” Jena stated.

The senior Congress leader also mentioned that the CM inquired if he felt unsafe and offered to arrange security after consulting with law enforcement authorities. During their conversation, Jena also urged the CM to strengthen the law and order situation in the state for better governance.

Jena expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking swift action and prioritizing his security. Meanwhile, the police continue to investigate the matter to trace the unidentified caller.
