HC directs SU not to publish list of successful Prof, Associate Profs candidates

Surjit Kumar Dhal, SAMBALPUR, JULY 13: The Odisha High Court has instructed the authorities of the Sambalpur University to recruit professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers soon.
However, it directed the authorities not to publish the results of the successful candidates for the professor and Associate Professors posts without the consent of the court.
A bench of the Court, headed by Justice BR Sarangi, has given the order hearing a plea by one Dhananjay Soren and three others.
The petitioners alleged before the court that the university authorities have knowingly violated the SC/ST Reservation Act due to which the these categories of candidates will be deprived of getting justice and appointments thereby.
Notably, the university authorities had published an advertisement last month to fill up nine posts of professors, 17 associate professors and 20 assistant professors.
But for the first two categories there would be no reservation under the ORV Act though reservations would be applicable for the posts of Assistant Professors and Lecturers.
Challenging this, Soren and others filed a writ petition.
The Bench has issued the direction to the university authorities, higher education department and the state government.
When contacted Vice Chancellor Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera said, “We are not governed by any ordinance because education comes under the concurrent list. But we will strictly follow the instructions of the honourable high court.”
He asserted that everything was done as per the instructions of the State Government and the guidelines from Higher Education Department.
