Man gets lifer for kidnap, murder of girl in Ganjam

Berhampur, May 18: The District and Sessions court here Friday sentenced life imprisonment to a man after convicting him in the murder and kidnap of a minor girl in Ganjam district.
District and Sessions court Judge Bibhu Prasad Routray passed the order of life imprisonment and imposed penalty of Rs 10,000 fine on Ganesh Moharana (37). In default, the convict will go another one year rigorous imprisonment, said public prosecutor Ajit Kumar Patnaik.
The court pronounced its judgment after examining 38 witnesses, Patnaik said adding that both the victim and convict belong to one village.
Five years ago, a 16-year old girl was killed after being kidnapped in a village under Golanathara police station limits near here.
Moharana had abducted the minor girl from her house on May 14, 2014, when she along with her younger sister were sleeping.
Police had found her body from the village on the next day. Police arrested the accused person on May 26, 2014 after conducting through investigation.
Though the family members of the deceased suspected that she was killed after rape, the police could not establish the incident of rape of the deceased.
