Cyclone Arnab: Schools, Anganwadi Centres Closed in Four Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: In view of heavy rainfall and strong winds triggered by Cyclone Arnab, the administrations of Nayagarh, Subarnapur, Kalahandi and Boudh districts have declared a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres on Thursday as a precautionary measure.

In Nayagarh, District Collector Madhumita Rath announced the closure of all schools and colleges for the day as heavy rain and strong winds continue to lash the district under the cyclone’s influence.

Similarly, all government and private schools and Anganwadi centres in Subarnapur district will remain closed due to continuous rainfall. District Education Officer Ghanshyam Meher announced the decision on the instructions of the District Collector.

The Kalahandi district administration has also ordered the closure of all government, aided and private schools, including Adarsha Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Eklavya Model Residential Schools, along with Anganwadi centres, in anticipation of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The closure in Kalahandi applies only to students, while teachers and other staff members have been directed to attend their institutions as usual. Schools and Anganwadi centres in Boudh district will also remain closed for the day.

The decisions have been taken to ensure the safety of students and children amid adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Arnab.
