Hockey Can Promotes Teamwork, Discipline in Police Force: IGP Nayak

Bhubaneswar: Hockey can help police personnel develop discipline, coordination and resilience needed in their professional duties, said Dr Satyajit Nayak, IGP, Central Range, while speaking at the 76th State Police Hockey Championship-2026 at Kalinga Stadium.

Dr Nayak described the championship as more than a sporting contest, saying it provides police personnel with an opportunity to strengthen qualities essential for policing. He pointed out that physical fitness, alertness, teamwork and the ability to perform under pressure are common requirements in both hockey and police service.

Highlighting the importance of collective effort, he said success on the hockey field depends on trust and coordination among players, much like effective policing requires teamwork and shared responsibility.
He urged the participating teams to play with commitment while respecting opponents, officials and the rules. He also advised players to remain humble in victory and learn from defeat.

Encouraging young police personnel to actively participate in sports, Dr Nayak said regular sporting activities can improve fitness, discipline and professional preparedness.
He appreciated the Odisha Police Sports & Cultural Association, coaches, trainers, referees and support staff for conducting the state-level championship. He urged the players to uphold sportsmanship and represent their units and the Odisha Police with pride.
