Odisha Cabinet Clears Rs 1,917-Crore Road Connectivity Scheme to Bridge Missing Links

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to strengthen road infrastructure, the Odisha Cabinet has approved the MMSY–Connecting Missing Road Links (CMRL) scheme, a five-year initiative aimed at improving connectivity between blocks, districts and neighbouring states.
The scheme will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with a total investment of Rs 1,917 crore. As part of the programme, nearly 3,850 kilometres of roads will be developed to eliminate critical missing road links across the state.

The Cabinet has also given its nod to complete all ongoing projects under the scheme. In addition, connecting bridges and small cross-drainage (CD) structures will be constructed wherever necessary to ensure seamless road connectivity.
According to the state government, the initiative is designed to improve transportation in remote, border and island regions that currently lack adequate road access. The project is expected to reduce travel time between various blocks and districts while also enhancing connectivity with adjoining states by linking Odisha’s road network with neighbouring state roads.
The improved infrastructure is expected to provide easier access to essential public services, including hospitals, schools, colleges, panchayat offices and markets. It will also facilitate better connectivity to tourist destinations and commercial hubs, supporting trade and economic activities.
Officials believe the scheme will significantly enhance the quality of life in underserved areas by improving access to healthcare, education, employment opportunities and other essential services.
Following the Cabinet’s approval, the Rural Development Department will roll out the project in phases over the next five years.
