DRI seizes 11 kg marijuana worth Rs 5 crore at Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 11 kg of compressed marijuana worth over 5 crore from two passengers’ bags at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Tuesday.
As per reports, the contraband was concealed in the luggage bags of two passengers who had arrived from Bangkok in the city.
DRI officials seized the substance during thorough scrutiny of baggage.
The approximate value of the drug, smuggled from abroad, has been estimated to be at Rs 5 crore in the international market.
Officials are grilling the suspects at the airport.
This seizure came immediately after, district excise mobile unit seized over 70 kilograms of marijuana stuffed in the luxurious car near the Kuakhai bridge at Kazipatana under the limits of Cuttack Sadar police.
In this incident marijuana was estimated to be of around Rs 19 lakh in the market and 3 people were apprehended.
Also, in another such incident, huge quantity of marijuana was recovered from the roadside adjacent to Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway.
