Boyfriend arrested for killing girlfriend

Berhampur: The Odisha police have arrested a youth for allegedly murdering his girlfriend and staging it as road accident in Ganjam district.
The accused arrested has been identified as Rakesh Acharya, of Nimakhandi Pentha area under Digapahandi police limits.
He was arrested following an investigation into the death of his girlfriend, Ambika.
As per police, the victim and the accused were in into a relationship. She had been repeatedly pressuring Rakesh to marry her. To avoid the commitment, he allegedly hatched a plan and took her on a motorcycle ride to Gopalpur on June 7.
While returning late at night, he allegedly pushed her off the motorcycle near the Ankuli Overbridge, resulting in her death. He then allegedly tried to give the incident the appearance of a road accident.
After the incident, Rakesh himself informed Ambika’s family about her death.
The victim, a native of Rohi village, had completed her Plus Two Science education and was staying in Berhampur to prepare for the NEET examination.
Subsequently, Ambika’s uncle, Kahnu Jena, lodged a complaint at Baidyanathpur Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police recovered the body and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police allegedly found evidence pointing towards a planned murder. Rakesh was arrested and later produced before a local court.
