Low Pressure Likely Over Bay, Odisha May Get Heatwave Relief

Bhubaneswar: In a welcome development for people across Odisha battling intense heat and humidity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possible formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days.

According to the latest prediction by the IMD, there is a 91 to 97 per cent probability of cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean during the next two weeks. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the central Bay of Bengal around May 28 and 29.

Meteorological officials said favourable atmospheric conditions, including the active Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phase and other supporting weather systems, are expected to aid the development of the system.

Once formed, the low-pressure area is likely to move in a north-west direction, potentially triggering widespread rainfall and thundershowers across several parts of Odisha.

The anticipated weather activity is expected to bring much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions by increasing cloud cover, lowering temperatures, and reducing discomfort caused by high humidity levels across the state.
