Youth Tied to Tree, Thrashed by Villagers Over Alleged Misconduct With Girls in Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking case of mob justice, a youth was allegedly tied to a tree and brutally assaulted by villagers over accusations of misbehaving with two young girls at Barahampur village under Udala police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, two youths from the Baripada area had entered the village late at night while a programme was being held at the house of a local Adivasi family. The duo allegedly harassed and misbehaved with two girls present at the event, triggering outrage among villagers.

Enraged locals reportedly chased and caught the two youths. While one of them managed to flee from the spot, the other was overpowered by the mob. The villagers allegedly tied him to a tree with ropes and thrashed him mercilessly.
After receiving information about the incident, police reached the village, rescued the injured youth, and shifted him to a hospital for treatment.
The rescued youth, however, claimed that he had gone to the village in search of his wife and had mistakenly caught hold of another girl in a state of confusion.
Police are investigating the incident. Further details regarding the identities of the accused youth and the girls are yet to be ascertained.
