East Burdwan Leads Turnout Chart with Over 93% Polling

Kolkata: East Burdwan recorded the highest voter turnout in West Bengal with 93.6% polling across two phases, topping the state’s turnout chart.
South 24 Parganas followed with 92.6%, while North 24 Parganas registered 92.4%. Hooghly, Nadia and Howrah also saw high participation with 91.8%, 91.9% and 91.7% turnout respectively.

Kolkata, traditionally known to record lower voting percentages, witnessed a significant rise this time. The city recorded 88.4% turnout as of 8 pm, marking an increase of over 28% compared to the 2021 elections. North Kolkata recorded 89.3% polling, slightly higher than South Kolkata’s 87.7%.
Election Commission officials attributed the high turnout to the removal of non-existent voters from electoral rolls, enhanced security measures, and improved polling arrangements, including booths in residential complexes.
Only one death linked to poll-related violence was reported this election season, in Asansol, compared to higher numbers in previous elections.
Around 700 companies of CAPF will remain deployed in the state until the completion of vote counting.
