Woman Killed, Five Injured in SUV Crash in Kalahandi

Kalahandi: A 31-year-old woman lost her life while five others sustained serious injuries in a road accident at Gungunia Chhak under Kalampur police limits in Kalahandi district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Minurani Sahu, a resident of Mangalpur village under Jaipatna police station.

According to reports, the victims were travelling in an SUV and were returning to their village early in the morning after attending a wedding ceremony. Near Gungunia Chhak, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree.

Hearing the impact, local residents rushed to the spot and assisted in rescuing the injured passengers. All six victims were immediately shifted to the Jaipatna Community Health Centre for treatment. However, doctors declared Minurani Sahu brought dead on arrival.

Hospital sources said the condition of some of the injured remains critical, and they are undergoing further medical care.

On receiving information, police reached the spot, seized the damaged vehicle, and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over Mangalpur village and nearby areas.
