Odisha experiences Intense heat wave, temp likely to rise by 4-6 degrees Celsius

Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Department has predicted that temperatures are likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next three days.

The coastal Odisha is experiencing intense heat wave conditions including hot and humid weather as the temperature has witnessed a sharp increase for the past few days.The hot and humid weather is expected to continue till April 17.

Odisha experienced a sharp rise in temperatures after a brief spell of relief due to Kalbaisakhi rains over the past few days. With a rise in temperature, various places across the state has started suffering from hot and humid weather.

The temperature is expected to touch 40 degrees in western Odisha. By the 14th, the temperature may touch 45 degrees in most districts of western Odisha.

A yellow warning has been issued for 11 districts for today due to hot and humid conditions. The people have been cautioned about the heat and humidity and have been advised to take necessary precautions, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and stay hydrated as the discomfort level is expected to remain high.

In addition, a heatwave warning has been issued for Bargarh and Bolangir districts for April 14. On April 15, four districts icnluding Bargarh, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur have been issued yellow alerts for hot weather.  Several coastal districts will continue to remain under yellow alert due to hot and humid conditions for next five days.

The impact of the heat is expected to intensify from Pana Sankranti, traditionally considered the beginning of peak summer in Odisha.

In addition, a heatwave warning has been issued for Bargarh and Bolangir districts for April 14. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged people, especially vulnerable groups, to remain cautious as the state braces for an extended period of extreme heat.

Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati may experience extreme heat and humidity.

Normal life has been affected in most places due to the intense heat.
