Former R&B Clerk Convicted in Bribery Case, Sentenced to 4 Years

Bhubaneswar: A former Head Clerk in the Office of the Executive Engineer, Roads & Buildings (R&B) Division in Rourkela was convicted on Tuesday in a bribery case by the Special Vigilance Judge, Sundargarh.
The convict, identified as Subash Chandra Das, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 15,000.

According to officials, Das, who had already retired from service, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe from a contractor in exchange for releasing his security deposit linked to a construction project.
He was found guilty under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, including Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7.
Following the conviction, Das was immediately taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance officials said that steps will be taken to approach the competent authority for the stoppage of his pension in view of the conviction.
