ORMAS Procures 128 MT Tomatoes to Support Farmers Across Five Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), functioning under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department, has procured 128.30 metric tonnes of tomatoes from five districts under a special initiative aimed at ensuring fair prices and reliable market access for farmers.

The procurement drive covered Ganjam, Cuttack, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Jagatsinghpur, with produce sourced through self-help groups (SHGs) and farmer producer organisations (FPOs). Among the districts, Cuttack recorded the highest contribution with 53 metric tonnes, followed by Ganjam with 33.80 tonnes, Angul with 20 tonnes, Jharsuguda with 18 tonnes, and Jagatsinghpur with 3.50 tonnes.

All procured tomatoes were supplied to Bharat Masala for further processing, officials said.

According to officials, the initiative is helping farmers secure assured marketing opportunities while also stabilising prices in the market. It is also strengthening the role of SHGs and FPOs by enabling them to build sustainable supply and marketing channels for agricultural produce.
