Holi 2026: Twin City Police Roll Out Tight Security, 85 Checkpoints to Curb Drunk Driving

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have announced elaborate security arrangements across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Holi celebration, issuing a stern warning against drunk driving and public misconduct.

The security measures are being implemented under the supervision of Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh. The arrangements will be closely monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), four Additional DCPs, and eight officers of SP rank to maintain strict vigilance across sensitive locations.

As part of the deployment plan, 30 platoons of police personnel will be stationed at key points in the Twin Cities to maintain law and order. Additionally, 17 mobile patrol teams will remain active, especially in high-footfall and vulnerable areas, to ensure continuous monitoring during the festivities.

In a major crackdown on violations, special drives against drunk driving will be conducted at 85 checkpoints across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Police have made it clear that strict action will be taken against offenders, including vehicle seizure and detention.

To prevent any untoward incidents near water bodies, Fire Services and ODRAF teams will be deployed at 10 bathing ghats and riverbanks. Four dedicated striking teams will also remain on standby for swift emergency response.

Addressing the media, Commissioner Singh said that the same security protocols implemented during last year’s Holi will be enforced again. “Comprehensive arrangements have been made across Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to ensure safe celebrations. Strict checking will be carried out, and special drives will be conducted to curb drink-driving,” he stated.

He also appealed to citizens to celebrate responsibly. “Holi is a festival of joy and harmony. We urge everyone to avoid any act that may disturb peace or invite legal action,” he added.

Police have further cautioned against the use of harmful chemical colours and informed that all Holi-related events will be closely monitored to prevent disorder.

With multi-layered deployment, intensified enforcement, and emergency preparedness in place, authorities aim to ensure that Holi celebrations in the Twin Cities remain safe, peaceful, and enjoyable for all.
