Dahibara Aludam Day Celebrated in Cuttack; CM Majhi Greets People

Cuttack: The Silver City came alive on Sunday as thousands of food lovers gathered to celebrate ‘Dahibara Aludam Day’, an annual festival dedicated to one of Odisha’s most iconic street foods. The event was held at the Lower Baliyatra Ground, where over 50 popular vendors served the beloved delicacy to enthusiastic residents and visitors, preserving its authentic street-style essence.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his greetings on the occasion through a post on social media platform X. He described Dahibara as more than just food, calling it an emotion for every Odia and a symbol of the State’s rich traditional food culture. He also urged people to take Odia cuisine to the global stage on the occasion of Dahibara Day.

Now in its second year, the festival drew food enthusiasts from across the State. Traditional stalls recreated the classic roadside experience, allowing visitors to relish crisp vadas soaked in spiced yoghurt, paired with the signature aludam — a flavourful potato curry that has become synonymous with Cuttack’s culinary identity.

Residents expressed joy at the large turnout and festive spirit. Many highlighted the legacy of the dish and the efforts to keep the tradition alive. Locals said Dahibara remains an integral part of daily life in Cuttack, with people lining up for the dish from early morning hours. The celebration, which peaked around late morning, witnessed families and groups gathering to savour the flavours together.

The festivities were not limited to Cuttack alone, as several towns and villages across the region also marked the occasion, reflecting the widespread popularity of the dish.

Beyond being a food festival, the event celebrated Odisha’s culinary heritage and reaffirmed Dahibara’s status as a cultural symbol of the State. With the aroma of freshly prepared vadas filling the air and crowds enjoying the communal spirit, Dahibara Aludam Day 2026 turned into a memorable celebration for the Silver City.
