Newborn Girl Found Abandoned in Bush in Mayurbhanj, Rescued by ASHA Worker

Mayurbhanj: A newborn girl was found abandoned in a bush behind an ASHA worker’s house in Jhinkiria village under Morada police limits of Mayurbhanj district on Friday.

The infant, weighing 2 kg 345 grams, was discovered by ASHA worker Sabitrimani Jena after her daughter-in-law heard a baby crying from behind their house. Upon checking, they found the newborn lying in a bush with mud on her face and body. The baby also had visible injuries, suggesting she may have been abandoned shortly after birth.

Acting swiftly, Jena rushed the infant to the Kishantandi Community Health Centre for immediate medical attention. Doctors provided necessary treatment, and the baby is currently reported to be stable.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident to trace those responsible for abandoning the child. Officials said the newborn will be shifted to the Child Welfare Committee in Baripada for further care and protection.
