Woman Attempts Self-Immolation At Bhadrak Collectorate Over Job Grievance

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a distressed young woman allegedly attempted self-immolation at the Bhadrak Collectorate on Saturday, reportedly protesting the non-redressal of her job-related grievance.
The woman, identified as Bijaylaxmi Das, is a diploma holder in Early Childhood Care and Education. She had earlier applied for a Nursery teacher’s post but was not selected. Subsequently, she had pinned her hopes on securing a position as a Balvatika teacher. However, the government’s decision to engage primary school teachers for the posts instead reportedly left her deeply disheartened.
According to reports, Das attempted to set herself on fire within the Collectorate premises after she was unable to meet the district Collector to present her grievance.
She was immediately rescued and rushed to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment in the Burn Ward.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances leading to the extreme step.
