Two Held for Putting Up Fake Maoist Banners in Rayagada

Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, Rayagada police have taken two persons into custody for allegedly posing as Maoists and attempting to create panic by putting up fake Maoist banners and posters at multiple locations in the district.

The accused have been identified as Anubrata Bara alias Ranjhu, a web channel journalist from Rayagada town, and Bali Majhi of Kanjammanda village under Kashipur police limits.

According to police, Maoist banners had surfaced at three different places in Rayagada district on February 13, triggering concern among local residents. Following an investigation, officials found that the banners and posters were fabricated and had no connection with any active Maoist outfit.

Preliminary findings suggest that the duo allegedly arranged for the printing and display of the fake posters with the intention of spreading fear and disturbing public order.

Both accused were taken into custody and underwent medical examination as per procedure. Police further revealed that Bali Majhi had previously been arrested in connection with a Maoist-related case. Authorities are now probing whether his past links have any connection to the present incident.

Further investigation is underway.
