Class X Student Electrocuted While Lowering National Flag in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Bhubaneswar: A tragic accident claimed the life of a Class X student who was electrocuted while lowering the National Flag after Republic Day celebrations at a private coaching centre in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Omm Prakash Dwivedy, a minor who had been staying at his maternal uncle’s house in Samagol and attending tuition classes at the coaching institute located under Kujang police limits.

According to reports, students had gathered on the rooftop of the building in the morning to celebrate the 77th Republic Day and hoisted the National Flag using a metal pipe. In the evening, while attempting to lower the flag, the metal pipe reportedly came into contact with overhead live electric wires. Omm Prakash was electrocuted during the process.
Locals immediately rushed the boy to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, police have detained the owner of the coaching centre for questioning. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the mishap and whether safety lapses were involved.
