Odisha Seeks NITI Aayog Backing to Fast-Track BCPPER as New Growth Engine

The Odisha government has approached NITI Aayog for support to speed up the development of the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack–Puri–Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER). The project is planned as a major hub for urban growthindustry, and job creation in the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi discussed the proposal with NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery. He sought policy guidance and financial support, including help through the Urban Challenge Fund. The government aims to build the BCPPER as a connected economic corridor linking BhubaneswarCuttackPuri, and Paradip.

Officials said the region includes nearly 90 priority projects. These projects focus on urban infrastructuretransportlogisticsmanufacturing zoneshousing, and basic civic services. The state sees the corridor as key to handling fast urban expansion and improving economic activity.

The Chief Minister highlighted progress in roadspower supplyirrigation, and logistics networks. He also pointed to reforms that support MSMEs, attract private investment, and strengthen skill development. He said closer work with NITI Aayog would help align state plans with national priorities.

NITI Aayog praised Odisha’s fiscal discipline and focus on governance reforms. Suman Bery suggested building Bhubaneswar as a model city with better urban planningsanitationgreen spaces, and sustainable infrastructure.

The BCPPER project is expected to reshape Odisha’s urban and industrial landscape and create large-scale employment over the long term.
