Bhadrak youth comes to Puri for attending cremation at swargadwar

Puri: A Bhadrak youth had come to Puri for attending cremation ceremony of a man at swargadwar. However, he was hacked to death following a minor dispute.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Das.

As per reports, Ranjan had come to Puri along with others to cremate the body of a deceased. To collect the bones while the corpse was being burnt, they required a coconut as per the tradition.

Accordingly, Ranjan and a few others came outside of the Swargadwar to the Chaitanya Chhaka at about 1 am in the night to fetch a green coconut. However, meanwhile a verbal spat erupted between Ranjan and the other youths. It turned ugly and they almost started to abuse each other.

At this time a local youth, identified as Tanmany Mohapatra of Balisahi, was going on that road. He, as per reports, intervened to calm the fighting youths. However, they also attacked him and in return he also assaulted them resulting in the death of Rajan.

Following the incident Puri Sea Beach Police reached the spot and sent the body to hospital for autopsy. Tanmay has been detained for questioning while further inquiry of the case is underway.
