Physically Challenged Woman Allegedly Raped in Puri, Accused Detained

Bhubaneswar: A physically challenged woman was allegedly raped within the Brahmagiri police station limits of Puri district on Friday night, triggering concern and condemnation from political leaders.

According to reports, a middle-aged man allegedly forcefully entered the woman’s house in the absence of other family members and sexually assaulted her. Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the local police station, after which the police detained the accused.

Police officials said the survivor has been subjected to a medical examination and further legal procedures are currently underway. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Reacting to the case, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sanjay Das Burma demanded stringent punishment for the accused and called upon the authorities to ensure a swift and impartial investigation to deliver justice to the survivor.
