BJD & Congress calls for 6-hr bandh in Chandbali

Chandbali: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress have called for a 6-hour shutdown in Chandbali block of Bhadrak district from 6 am to 12 noon today, protesting the alleged rape and murder of minor girl.
Due to the bandh, Shops and commercial establishments remained closed.
On Tuesday, the body of the 10-year-old girl was recovered yesterday from a dense forest under the Chandabali police station limits. The body was seized by police and sent to Chandbali Community Health Centre (CHC) for postmortem.
Following the incident, locals staged road blockades at several locations in Chandbali by burning tyres, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. A platoon of police was deployed in the area to control the crowd.
Yesterday, the Bhadrak police arrested the prime accused Satyabrata Das from Jagatsinghpur in the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Chandbali town.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the victim’s family and assured strict punishment for the accused.
