Former Amin Convicted in Bribery Case, Sentenced to Four Years’ Rigorous Imprisonment

Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balangir has convicted Sahu Meher, a former Amin under Tarva Tahasil in Subarnapur district, in a bribery case and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.

Meher was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe from a landowner in exchange for the demarcation of land plots. The case was investigated by the Odisha Vigilance, which had charge-sheeted him under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Following the pronouncement of the judgment, Meher was taken into judicial custody to serve his sentence.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Vigilance has initiated steps to stop Meher’s pension in accordance with rules applicable after conviction in a corruption case.
