Former Congress MLA Mohammad Moquim Reacts to Expulsion, Says Ideology Remains with Party

Bhubaneswar: Former Congress MLA Mohammad Moquim on Monday reacted to his expulsion from the Congress party, saying he was “happy” that action had been taken against him and asserting that his ideological commitment to the party remains unchanged.
Speaking to the media, Moquim said he had done nothing wrong and did not regret writing a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, which ultimately led to his expulsion. He stated that the letter was written in the hope of internal reforms within the party, but instead disciplinary action was initiated against him.

Moquim said he would consult his supporters and advisors before deciding his future course of action. “Give me a few days. I will let you know which party I will join next,” he said.
His expulsion was approved by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) on the proposal of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Charan Das, citing “anti-party activities.”
Commenting on his daughter Sophia Firdous, a sitting Congress MLA, Moquim said she would take her own decision regarding her political future.
Moquim had earlier written to Sonia Gandhi raising concerns over what he described as the party’s organisational decline and leadership issues. In the letter, he reportedly referred to the inaccessibility of Rahul Gandhi and called for reforms and new leadership, also remarking that age was “not on the side” of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.
