Odisha Reports 3,205 Rape Cases in 15 Months

Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded 3,205 rape cases between July 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the State Assembly on Monday. The data was presented in response to a question raised by MLA Prasanna Acharya regarding crimes against women.

According to the figures shared by the Chief Minister, the state also registered 202 cases of attempted rape, 9,851 cases of molestation, and 1,476 incidents of sexual harassment during the period.

Highlighting a worrying rise in gender-based crimes, the report noted 2,310 cases of public disrobing, 152 cases of voyeurism, and 556 cases of stalking. Additionally, Odisha reported 4 acid attacks, 129 trafficking cases, and 796 incidents of eve-teasing.

The data further revealed 8,863 cases of kidnapping or abduction of women, 277 dowry-related homicides, and 5,861 cases of dowry torture. Another 6,773 cases of non-dowry torture and 49 dowry-related suicides were also registered.

The statistics underline a disturbing trend and have sparked concerns about women’s safety and the urgent need for stronger protective measures in the state.
