Odisha to Host First-Ever ‘Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025’ in Cuttack

Cuttack: In a tribute to Odisha’s glorious maritime legacy, the State Government is set to host its first-ever boat race, titled ‘Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025’, along the banks of the Mahanadi River near Gadadadia Ghata — close to the venue of the ongoing Bali Jatra in Cuttack.
The two-day event, beginning on November 11, will see men’s and women’s teams from 10 states, including Odisha, competing in various categories. The main attraction will be the Fly Boat Race, which promises to offer a thrilling spectacle for visitors gathered along the riverbanks.

According to the official schedule, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida will inaugurate the competition at 11:45 a.m. on November 11. On the second day, the races will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Gana Kabi Baishnaba Pani Manch, where Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will present awards to the winners.
Coinciding with the historic Bali Jatra, the event aims to celebrate the spirit of the ancient Odia sailors, or Sadhabas, who once undertook daring sea voyages for trade and cultural exchange across Southeast Asia, strengthening Odisha’s long-standing connection with maritime tradition.
