Two Youths Electrocuted by Illegal Hunting Trap in Koraput

Koraput: In a tragic incident, two young men lost their lives after being electrocuted by a live wire laid for hunting wild animals in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday.

The mishap occurred near Kendupai village under Pipalpadar panchayat in Laxmipur block, when the victims—identified as Gahela Mandinga of Kendupai village and Kumar Miniaka of Pipalpadar village—came into contact with an electrified wire while searching for their missing cattle through a forest path.

According to reports, the wire had been illegally connected to trap wild animals. Both men died on the spot, and their bodies were later discovered lying on a nearby hill.

Tension gripped the area as locals alleged official apathy, stating that even hours after the tragedy, neither the police nor officials from the electricity department had reached the scene. Family members of the deceased were seen waiting beside the bodies for authorities to arrive.

Villagers expressed outrage over the incident, blaming the administration for failing to curb illegal hunting practices and for the delayed response from concerned departments. They have demanded an immediate investigation and stringent action against those responsible.
