Illegal Gun Trade Busted in Balasore

Balasore police busted a major illegal gun racket in Remuna area on November 5, seizing four firearms and arresting three individuals, including the prime accused.

Acting on a tip-off, Nilagiri SDPO Pramod Mallik and Remuna police raided the house of Muna alias Santanu Kumar Das in Nianbag village. Officers recovered one air gun, one country-made pistol, and live ammunition. Muna failed to produce any license, prompting police to interrogate him about the source and network of the arms trade.

During a press briefing at Remuna police station, Additional SP Debjyoti Das revealed that Muna was the key seller. He had supplied pistols to Manoj Kumar Bhuyan of Achyutpur village and Amitabh Dwivedi of Diha Remuna. Both were arrested, and their weapons were seized. None of the accused possessed legal documents for firearm ownership.

Investigators suspect a link between the Balasore gun trade and suppliers in Bihar. Police are probing further to trace the origin of the weapons and identify other suspects. Officials admitted that some individuals involved in the racket are still absconding.

Police registered a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act (Case No. 200/4.11.25) and produced the accused in court. The raid team included SI Subash Chandra Mallik, ASI Dhirendra Prasad Mohanty, and several constables and home guards.

Authorities assured stricter surveillance in Balasore to curb rising criminal activities and illegal arms circulation.
