CM Majhi Reviews ‘Kalamandal’ Auditorium, Keonjhar Sports Projects

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today reviewed the construction progress of the ‘Kalamandal’ auditorium at Lok Seva Bhawan and discussed plans to enhance sports infrastructure in Keonjhar district.

The ‘Kalamandal’ auditorium, the largest in Odisha, is being constructed by IDCO on 9.85 acres near Sainik School at an estimated cost of Rs 173 crore. The complex will feature a 2,000-seat main auditorium and a 500-seat open-air theater, making it suitable for hosting government programs and official meetings. CM Majhi instructed authorities to expedite construction to ensure completion by May 2026 and emphasized the inclusion of comprehensive facilities, including adequate parking arrangements.

In addition to the auditorium, the Chief Minister reviewed six major proposed sports projects for Keonjhar district. These include two modern sports complexes at Ranki and Raikala, a football stadium with indoor and outdoor facilities at Kali Padia, a modern swimming pool at DN High School premises, an archery academy at Narangpur, and a 100-bed handball sports hostel in Keonjhar.

The meeting was attended by Odia Language, Literature, Culture, and Sports Minister Suryavanshi Suraj, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra, Finance Principal Secretary Sanjeev Mishra, Sports Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Culture Secretary Vijay Ketan Upadhyay, Sports Director Edula Vijay, and other senior officials.
