Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, Durgapur police have arrested three persons in connection with the gang-rape of an Odia medical student studying in West Bengal.

Police said the accused were traced through mobile phone location tracking, leading to their swift arrest. However, two other accused remain absconding, and a manhunt has been launched to nab them. Authorities assured that efforts are underway to ensure all the culprits are brought to justice soon.

According to reports, the 23-year-old MBBS student, a resident of Jaleswar in Balasore district, was allegedly gang-raped by five unidentified men on Friday night, shortly after stepping out for dinner with a classmate near her private medical college in Durgapur.

The victim is currently under treatment, and her condition is said to be improving.

Expressing concern over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday spoke to the victim’s father and assured full support from the state government. The CM also directed Balasore Police to coordinate closely with Durgapur Police and demanded strict action against all the accused involved in the heinous crime.
