Light Gate Collapses Amid Heavy Rain in Jagatsinghpur, Five Injured

Jagatsinghpur: In a dramatic incident triggered by heavy rainfall, a 30-foot-tall light gate erected for Durga Puja celebrations at Balikuda Market in Jagatsinghpur district collapsed on Thursday, trapping over five people and two motorcycles beneath the debris.

According to reports, all the trapped individuals were rescued by local residents and fire service personnel and have been shifted to the Balikuda Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a Red Warning for Jagatsinghpur, predicting scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall, isolated extremely heavy downpours, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h at certain locations.

The collapse of the gate caused a major disruption in vehicular movement along the Jagatsinghpur–Machhagaon road.

Upon receiving the alert, the fire brigade team rushed to the spot and began operations to clear the road, cutting through the bamboo and iron framework of the fallen structure.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious as intermittent heavy rains continue to lash the district.
