Snake Rescuer Dies After Cobra Bite During Public Stunt in Balangir

Balangir: A tragic incident occurred in Sindhekela of Odisha’s Balangir district, where a snake rescuer lost his life after being bitten by a cobra during a public display of snake-handling skills.
The deceased has been identified as Santosh Chanda, a resident of Sahupada under Sindhekela police limits. According to reports, Santosh, known locally for rescuing snakes, was called on Wednesday evening to capture a cobra that had entered a villager’s house.

After successfully catching the snake, Santosh reportedly took it to the village square to showcase his handling skills before a crowd. However, the stunt turned fatal when the cobra suddenly bit him on the tongue.
Eyewitnesses said Santosh collapsed immediately and was rushed to Bhawanipatna hospital, where doctors declared him dead soon after admission.
The incident has shocked the local community, as Santosh was widely known for his expertise in rescuing snakes. The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the risks involved in handling venomous reptiles and the dangers of turning such acts into public entertainment.
