Odisha Adds Two New Medical Colleges, Strengthens Faculty in Key Institutions

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced major strides in medical education and training with the addition of two new government medical colleges and significant faculty appointments across the state.
The newly functional institutions—Government Medical College & Hospital in Phulbani (Kandhamal) and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital in Talcher (Angul)—have taken the total number of government medical colleges in Odisha to 14.
To further strengthen medical education, the state has appointed 91 Assistant Professors in 23 broad speciality disciplines and seven Assistant Professors in six super-speciality disciplines across various medical colleges. These include appointments in premier institutions such as SCB Medical College, Cuttack; MKCG Medical College, Berhampur; and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Bhubaneswar.
Additionally, 38 Professor posts and 27 Associate Professor posts have been filled through departmental promotions. The Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) in Cuttack has also received a boost with 10 new super-specialist Assistant Professors joining its faculty.
Officials said these developments will not only enhance the quality of medical education but also improve clinical services, paving the way for stronger healthcare delivery in Odisha. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to expand specialist and super-specialist appointments in coming years.
