Odisha Govt Allows Departments to Procure AI Tools for Administrative Efficiency

Bhubaneswar: In a move to modernise governance and boost administrative efficiency, the Odisha government has authorised all departments to procure Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for official use.

The directive, issued by General Administration and Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department Additional Chief Secretary Surendra Kumar, highlights the state’s focus on adopting advanced technology to streamline workflows and enhance decision-making.

According to the order, each department has been permitted to procure one AI tool — a basic version, higher than the free model — to support daily operations and capacity building of officers and staff.

At the same time, the government has stressed strict compliance with data security protocols. “While utilising these AI tools, it is reiterated that no secret or confidential documents/materials shall be uploaded on any external platform,” the order stated.

Officials said the initiative is part of Odisha’s ongoing administrative reforms, aimed at integrating cutting-edge technology for improved governance and public service delivery.
