Berhampur Youth Dies After Self-Immolation Attempt in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old youth, who had set himself on fire in Berhampur two days ago, succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Suraj Sahu. According to police, Sahu poured petrol on himself and set ablaze at Mentu Square under Bada Bazar police limits in Berhampur on Wednesday, reportedly due to family-related issues.

He sustained nearly 80 per cent burn injuries and was first admitted to the Burn Ward of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where he died during treatment in the evening.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
