Rainfall in Odisha to continue till September 15

Bhubaneswar: Rainfall in Odisha likely to continue under the influence of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area has been formed over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.
According to reports, the low pressure is likely to move west-northwestwards through south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh and south Chhattisgarh.
A yellow warning has been issued for 30 districts on Saturday under the influence of a low-pressure area, while heavy rainfall is likely in four districts – Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts. A yellow warning has also been issued for these four districts for rainfall in Odisha. Winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in some places in Odisha.
Similarly, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for 24 districts for lightning and thunder. Fishermen have been prohibited from entering the sea tomorrow as the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal along the south Odisha coast are likely to remain turbulent today and tomorrow.
As per the weather bulletin the adjacent upper air cyclonic circulation has extended southwards with a cyclonic circulation up to a height of 5.8 km above the sea level. It is likely to move west-northwestwards through south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and south Chhattisgarh in the next two days.
Similarly, the regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts for September 14. Accordingly, rain and thundershowers and gusty winds (30-40 km per hour) are likely at one or two places in these two districts.
On the other hand, the monsoon will return bringing in more rain. The India Meteorological Department has advised that the weather conditions are favorable for evacuation from some areas of western Rajasthan by the September 15.
Impact and action suggested for Yellow warning:
- Temporarily water logging likely in low lying areas and underpass road.
- Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
- Some damages to kutchha Road and possibility of wall collapsed of vulnerable kutchha houses.
- Some damages to vegetables and horticultural crops likely.
- Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion to be followed before leaving for your destination.
- Arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done.
