Two More Arrested in ₹11.5-Crore Jewellery Loot Case in Khordha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police have arrested two more accused in connection with the sensational armed loot at a jewellery shop in Khordha district last month, taking the total number of arrests in the case to six.
The case relates to the daring daylight robbery on August 24, 2025, when eight miscreants wearing helmets arrived on four motorcycles at Sai Sonu Alankar jewellery shop at Chhanagiri under Jankia police limits. According to the FIR filed by shop owner Arundhuti Sahu (50), the gang hurled bombs in front of the shop, threatened staff at gunpoint and with sharp weapons, and assaulted them before fleeing with 1.5 kg of gold and 5 kg of silver ornaments worth around ₹11.05 crore.
During the course of investigation, police identified a gang of 10 members, of which eight were traced. Earlier, four accused, including a receiver of the looted items, had been arrested. With the latest development, two more accused — a 24-year-old man from Purighat (Cuttack UPD) and a 23-year-old from Kanas (Puri district) — have been taken into custody.
The investigation has also led to significant recoveries. In earlier operations, police seized 900.65 grams of gold, 2.36 kg of silver, ₹9.45 lakh in cash, a country-made gun, live ammunition, and a bhujali (sharp weapon). In the latest raid, they recovered 1.013 kg of gold and 2.231 kg of silver. With this, the total recovery stands at 1.913 kg of gold and 4.594 kg of silver.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, DIG (Central Range, Cuttack), along with SP Khordha Vivekanand Sharma, IPS, and Addl. SP Khordha Srinibas Mohanty (OPS-I). The raids were conducted by a joint team led by SDPOs of Khordha and Balugaon, IICs of multiple police stations in Khordha district, and special squads from Khordha, Cuttack UPD, and Puri district.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and nab the remaining members of the gang involved in the high-profile heist.
