Balasore Nursing Student Dies by Suicide After Reported Online Gaming Losses

Balasore: A 20-year-old nursing student allegedly died by suicide at Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after reportedly losing money in an online game, police said on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Romeo Ranjan Samal, the only son of Mrityunjay Samal, an employee of the hospital. According to reports, Romeo was found hanging from the ceiling fan of the dressing room in the surgery ward on Thursday night, using a gammuchha (cotton cloth).

The incident occurred just before he was scheduled to attend his practical session in the surgery OT. Sources indicated that Romeo was addicted to online gaming and may have been under financial stress. However, the exact cause behind his drastic step is yet to be ascertained.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, Balasore police have launched an investigation into the incident.
