Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal to Bring Heavy Rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to trigger heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha over the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.

According to the IMD, the system developed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, at around 8:30 AM today.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southward with height. The weather system is likely to move in a west-northwestward direction across south Odisha, adjoining north Andhra Pradesh, and south Chhattisgarh during the next 48 hours, the IMD forecast added.

The department has warned of heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha under the influence of this system.
