Youth attempts suicide by consuming poison in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A youth attempted self-killing by consuming poison in Dhenkanal of Odisha on Thursday. However, alert Police personnel rushed to the scene and rescued him before he could consume the poison. The incident took place in front of the District Education Officer’s office in Dhenkanal town.

The youth has been identified as Prasanna Naik of Barihapur village under Parajang block of the district.

As per reports, Prasanna was frustrated after not getting appointment at the EGS center. In 2001, there was a proposal to open an EGS centre under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Barihapur area of Dhenkanal. Prasanna Naik applied as an EGS teacher here.

According to him, he also had to pay a bribe of Rs 8,000 for this. But he was not given the appointment but another girl was appointed.

Accordingly, the youth ran post to pillar to the offices of the DPEP or the project officer of the Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan and DEO, BDO as well as Collector but in vain. Hence, he had approached Court of law.

And finally he attempted self-killing in front of the DEO office by consuming poison. However, Police rescued him and now he has been detained.

Investigation of the matter is underway.
