Mahasnana of deities performed at Srimandir today

Puri: A Mahasnana, or holy bath, was performed for the deities at the Srimandira, the renowned Lord Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, today. The unscheduled ritual became necessary after spittle found near ‘Bhitara Katha’ inside the temple, compromising the sanctity of the premises.

According to reports, today it was witnessed that someone had spit near the Bhitara Katha of Srimandira. After this was noticed the darshan of the deities was temporarily halted and process initiated for Mahasnana.

In accordance with temple tradition, a Mahasnana was performed to restore the purity of the deities and the temple.

As per temple customs, any incident involving bleeding, vomiting, or uncleanliness necessitates the immediate cessation of ongoing rituals and a Mahasnana to restore the sanctity of the temple and its deities.
