Odisha Govt to Bear Medical Expenses of Music Composer Abhijit Majumdar

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced that it will bear the medical expenses of noted Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, who is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, who visited the hospital on Sunday, enquired about Majumdar’s health condition and held discussions with the doctors treating him. “There is slight improvement in Majumdar’s condition as the function of his kidney and liver has been stabilized. His vitals are stable now. But, Majumdar is still in a comatose state. The doctors at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar are providing the necessary treatment to him,” the minister said.
Mahaling further stated that the state government is ready to airlift the composer to AIIMS-Delhi if required. “We will hold discussions with the Directors of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and AIIMS-Delhi, and if necessary, Majumdar will be shifted to the national capital for advanced treatment. The state government will bear all his medical expenses,” he added.
Majumdar, a popular figure in the Odia music industry with compositions for numerous films and albums to his credit, fell ill during a series of music programmes on Ganesh Puja, August 27. Initially admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack, his condition worsened and he was later shifted to the ICU of another private facility.
On September 4, he was referred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where doctors diagnosed him with multiple comorbidities, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease. He remains in the ICU on ventilator support.
The state government’s assurance has brought relief to his family and fans as the celebrated composer continues to battle for recovery.
