Low Pressure Over Odisha Weakens; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alerts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday reported that the well-marked low-pressure area over south coastal Odisha has weakened into a low-pressure area lying over south Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh as of 5:30 am. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours, according to the regional weather office.

An orange warning has been issued for Malkangiri district, where heavy rainfall is expected today. A yellow warning has also been sounded for several districts, including Koraput, Nabarangapur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri, due to the possibility of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely in Rayagada, Nuapada, Balangir, and nearby areas. The IMD has further extended the yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of Odisha until August 31, urging residents to stay alert and follow weather updates closely.
