Government sets target to finish Panchayat delimitation exercise in Odisha by December

Bhubaneswar: The state government is mulling to complete the Panchayat delimitation in Odisha by December this year, prior to the National Census informed Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday.

Addressing the media persons, the Minister said that the process for the delimitation has already begun. The administrative boundaries delimitation of Tehsil, Panchayat, Revenue villages and Municipalities will be completed by December this year. The deadline was set in order to finish the work before the National Census scheduled to begin from next year.

He said that the limits of the Tehsil, Block and Panchayats are likely to be increased. The larger blocks will be bifurcated into smaller blocks thus giving way for the creation of the new administrative units.

For the restructuring, a Commission will be constituted, which will look into the creation of these. The work will be completed before the commencement of the National Census as the delimitation process will be stopped once the Census begins.
