Absconding Police SI arrested for marrying minor girl

Jagatsinghpur: In the case of the Police SI who had married a minor girl and later allegedly drove her away from home, Jagatsinghpur police have arrested the cop today. He was absconded for the last 5 months. He was wanted in the case of marrying a 10th standard minor aged girl in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha without the knowledge of her family after falling in love with her on Facebook.

As per reports, the said cop has been arrested from out of the State by the special squad.

The policeman has been identified as Amit Padhi. He lives under Baliapal police station limits in Balasore district.

The policeman was absconding for five months. The girl’s family had lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station after he allegedly drove her away from house. Earlier, Padhi had been suspended following police investigation.

As per reports, the cop allegedly married a minor girl and later drove her away from house after allegedly doing mental and physical torture – complained the parents of the minor girl.

Accordingly, a police complaint has been filed in the name of Amit Padhi at Baliapal police station in Balasore district of Odisha.

According to the complaint, Police SI Amit Padhi married a class 10 student (a minor girl) without the knowledge of the girl’s family. A few months after the marriage, the minor girl’s husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law allegedly physically and mentally tortured her, beat her up and drove her away from the house.

The victim and her mother claimed that they complained the matter in the police station 4 months back, but police took no action.

On the other hand, after receiving the complaint, the higher authorities suspended the accused Sub Inspector Amit Padhi from his job.

Amit came in contact with the said minor girl through Facebook when he was a Sub Inspector in Puri. The girl was from Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station area. Gradually a relationship developed between them and the Police ASI allegedly secretly married the minor girl with the knowledge and consent of her parents. He married her first in a temple and later in a hotel.

As per the allegation, two months after the marriage, the cop and his father and mother allegedly tortured the girl, for which she quit the house and went to her father’s house.
