Kabir began his journey from Sakhigopal and reached his destination at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after a long travel of 90 kilometers. Kabir’s wife Sukanti was getting treated at the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri two weeks back. As her health condition deteriorated the doctors advised him to shift his wife to SCB in ex-Capital. With no money to afford an ambulance or any private vehicle, Kabir decided to travel on trolley rickshaw. As soon as the authorities at the Hospital in SCB learned about Kabir’s ordeal they immediately admitted his wife for further treatment with out any worthless formalities.
“I tried my best to get an auto-rickshaw for my wife as the distance from Sakhigopal to SCB medical is too long. However, they demanded around Rs 1500 to drop us at our destination. Left without an alternative, I hired a trolley rickshaw for Rs 50 per day and brought her to the hospital. The travel was painful and tiring.” Doctors at SCB said Sukanti has undergone several tests and she will soon be shifted to the hospital ward from the casualty.
