65-Year-Old Woman Found Murdered Near Pond in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: A 65-year-old woman was found dead near a pond situated between Gaudapada and Amalipali under Town police limits in Sundargarh district on Wednesday night. The victim’s head was allegedly crushed with a stone, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Gurubari Majhi.

According to reports, Majhi was residing in a rented house at Amalipali with a local resident, Gopal Lakra. She had left the house around 5 pm on Wednesday, stating that she was going to meet her nephew. However, she did not return.

Local residents later claimed that Majhi was seen roaming in the area in an intoxicated condition. She subsequently went missing, following which her body was discovered near the pond.

On receiving information, Town police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional SP, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), visited the crime scene.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the murder.
